Thank You Day: It’s Not Too Late to Share Your Gratitude with The Community!

Naomi Hamlin |

Public gestures of thanks have been all around us in recent years, from applauding the NHS to scrolling an Instagram feed full of gratitude quotes, but what about appreciating the smaller stuff? When was the last time you thanked the team members or peers who help and support you in your role?

On Sunday June 5, 2022 there was a perfect excuse to get those ‘thank yous’ out there as the UK celebrated the second national Thank You Day. Dreamt up by 13 individuals to bring communities together, the day was supported by organisations including Scouts and Guides, Rotary, the Royal Voluntary Service, NHS, The Mirror and the Sun, the Football Association and the Church of England. And even though the day has passed, it’s not too late to show your appreciation and give thanks to those who deserve it.

Communities were encouraged to mark the day with picnics and BBQs but you don’t have to go big with bunting to be thankful. Community spirit is alive and well on the SAP Concur Community every day, with authorised support contacts (ASCs) and end users taking time to say thanks. Messages like this demonstrate how valuable members find the community:

“I wanted to take a moment to say 'thank you' for this community and all I've learned from it since Concur came into my life in 2015. I haven't been a frequent contributor, but I have learned much from the posts of others and appreciate greatly the advice I received when I posed a question… Keep up the valuable good work.”

We absolutely agree – keep it up! If you have someone to thank, pop over to the SAP Concur Community and do it today. Stuck for words? Here are some ideas to get you started.

Thank You for Solving My Problem

The SAP Concur Community is a great place to chat about everything spend management, but what if you have a specific problem? You’ll get advice from peers who are walking a similar path to you and can advise, share and offer support, whether it’s a simple tweak, a link to training materials or a more complex workaround. Be sure to pop back with a thank you!

Thank You for a Great Event

If you’ve attended an event or training session, why not thank the organisers and mention what you enjoyed and how it helped you. One SAP Community member posted about the SAP Concur Travel Industry Summit:  “Thanks for a great time – and a lot of useful information.” It’s that simple. It works both ways – if you’ve organised an event or a webinar, shout out to the people who took the time out of their busy schedules to attend or present.

Thank You for Going Out of Your Way

From driving back and forth to various offices collecting invoices, to chasing up receipts from employees who are working from multiple locations, finance teams have had their work cut out for them in recent times. Automation can take away a lot of the legwork but even then, there are the challenges of adjusting to new expense lines and travel policies. Send a thank you today to everyone adapting to new ways of working.

Thank You Turning My Day Around

We all have THOSE days and we all know how it feels to be helped out of a tricky situation that’s delaying you getting back to work or causing frustration for your team. When people go out of their way to help out, they’re also giving the gift of their valuable time. Share your relief and gratitude with a “You’ve saved my day – thank you.” The community isn’t just about solving problems, it’s also where people share positive stories like this one: “TripIt Pro…literally saved the day on two occasions for one of my travellers.”

Thank You for Being You

We’ve all got different strengths so why not acknowledge when someone helped you achieve something because of their specific skills and experience? Knowing they were vital to a positive outcome helps build esteem and confidence. If you see someone working above and beyond don’t just offer colleagues and collaborators a generic thanks – get specific! Even if it’s a thank you for a product or service such as this great comment on the community: “Thanks for a great product. I travel a lot and the Concur App is a life saver.”

Thank You – In Advance.

If you’re asking someone to help you, make sure you say thanks for the time that someone took out of their day to get involved. By letting them know in advance that you appreciate the value of their time, they’re more likely to give up more of it to help you out. This user did just that: “We just upgraded our Reporting and I am hoping someone can share a link to training or tutorial on how to pull reports with Intelligence. THANK YOU!”

Thank You –  Now, What Can I do for You?

Community is about giving and receiving and in the spend management community, it’s just as important to give back. Can you take something off someone’s workload or look at ways to automate the most menial aspects of their role so they can focus on the things they enjoy? Can you offer training on using tools to help them improve efficiency and accuracy? Can you simply offer them support when they most need it? Sometimes it’s just showing up that makes the difference.

Thank YOU

We’d like to thank all our customers who help make the SAP Concur Community an invaluable resource for ASCs and ends users by taking time out of their day to ask the questions and offer solutions that make everyone’s day a run a little more smoothly.

As American novelist Gertrude Stein once said, “Silent gratitude isn’t much to anyone” and we couldn’t agree more – so head over and join the SAP Concur Community and give a shout out to those you appreciate today and every day!
