Small-Medium Business Traveller Report 2021

Small-Medium Business Traveller Report 2021

Business travellers entering the post-pandemic era from companies with fewer than 1,000 employees universally want to get back out on the road, and see their companies facing severe consequences if they do not increase travel soon. Among their concerns, travellers report there will be fewer deals signed or existing contracts renewed.

The stakes are also high personally for travellers as they fear making less money, not advancing in their career and losing their job if corporate travel does not pick up. However, as much as they want to travel more, they expect to do so with increased flexibility throughout the process.

The report highlights survey results from 1,650 business travellers in 6 SMB markets - US, Canada, UK, France, ANZ Region (Australia New Zealand) and Japan - to determine the best strategy to bridge the gap between the needs of today’s business travellers and pre-pandemic travel norms.

  • Nearly all (95%) travellers are willing to travel for business over the next 12 months
  • Over 9 in 10 (91%) expect to change their behaviour in the coming 12 months, including more frequently staying in larger hotels (33%), prioritising domestic trips (33%) and using cars instead of public transportation (31%)
  • 60% expect to make changes that improve the sustainability of their travel
